Welcome to another post of beaches in Mallorca! This time we bring you all the info about Cala Sa Foradada in Mallorca, in the area of Deiá. Probably this is the best cala in the north of the island, so… if you’re planning to spend some days in Mallorca, don’t miss this beach or cala.
Sa Foradada ranked high in our personal list of favourite beaches and calas of Mallorca for many different reasons.

Why we loved Sa Foradada
First, when you are in the north of Mallorca, you’re visiting towns like Sóller, Deiá or Valldemossa and everybody says (and it’s true) that beach lovers should go the southeast coast. Nevertheless, in the middle of the mountains in the north there is this big chunk of rock that goes into the sea and has a hole in it. That’s Sa Foradada, and its beach is REALLY interesting.
In order to get to the small beach that’s there, hiking a respectable 3 km path is necessary. There is no other way to go there unless you go by boat. And this means, that the beach is going to be far from packed. We’re not kidding, we will show you the photos we took in July.
The waters are so clean and very good for snorkelling. Within all the coves we visited, this one had the most fish of all. There was even an octopus. There is poseidoneia, rocks, sand… a bit of everything.
And then, the landscape. That’s probably the best of it. Being in the middle of nowhere, surrounded by big walls, nice waters and having the boats quite far away… That was good. 😊
How to get to Sa Foradada
We are not going to lie. We sweat like pigs going down to the beach. BUT it’s worth it and if you enjoy hiking you’ll like it. Take it as an opportunity to get in your daily steps.
About the hike to the beach (with useful information!)
Getting to cala Sa Foradada on foot takes around 45 minutes going down, and 50 going up (coming back), so you can consider it as an “excursion”. This hike starts next to Son Morroig, a museum the also holds weddings and offers unique sunsets from the lookout.
Once there, you will see a road that has a fence and it can be closed. Important: since the restaurant is closed on Thursdays, it’s possible that if you go on a Thursday, as we did, the fence may be closed. It clearly says that is closed and there is no other entry.
If you see this fence closed… jump over it. That’s my personal Spanish advice. I don’t know if they do it to deter foreigners or what’s the reason behind it.
The path starts going down through olive trees and it zig zags down for several kilometers. The difficulty is easy and it can be done with kids BUT in summer the hike seems infinite due the lack of shade.
After the zigzag, and before getting to a flat path that leads you to the cala Sa Foradada and the restaurant, you can also stop for a rest. We found a carved stone next to the shore where we had our snacks (we always bring chips to beaches) and swam. The snorkelling was much better in the cala than here.
If you’re in a rush or don’t want to rest here, go straight to the beach and… enjoy! When we arrived, there were only some boats and one other family. We stayed one hour and another family came.
Cala Sa Foradada was wonderful to us, a platform surrounded by water and rocks with plenty of fish in the water. It was one of the places we felt “disconnected” and in vacation mode. And I would 100% recommend coming here.
The restaurant Sa Foradada
Restaurante Sa Foradada is a small restaurant with splendid views of the Mediterranean Sea. It’s located right on the rocks around Cala Sa Foradada and opens only around lunch time 12:30 to 16:00 pm and it’s closed on Thursdays. We absolutely recommend making a reservation by phone in advance, especially in summer. The place it’s a bit pricey but… I mean, it’s in the middle of nowhere and you’re paying the extra experience, not just the good food.
Sunset by the beach
We weren’t so lucky with our sunsets in Mallorca to be honest. We got 9 of 10 really good sunny days on our trip, but the sunsets were very cloudy for no reason. For this reason we won’t post a blog with the Best Places for Sunsets in Mallorca, as was my idea. Anyways, we recommend the area for great sunsets.
The place Mirador de Sa Foradada is one of the most visited for its lovely views, but any spot where you can park the car along the Ma-10 road, will work. We found an esplanade with other people doing the same as us. Also, the idea of drinking some wine plus local cheese while enjoying the sunset, sounds like an amazing plan!
