Theth National Park is one of the best regions in Albania. Surrounded by high mountains and crossed by a river, Theth Valley offers a marvellous landscape for visitors. In this post, we explain how to get to Theth Waterfall, one of the most visited places in this region. Theth – or Grunasi – waterfall is a beauty cascade, easily accessible from Theth.
In our 3-day trip to do the Valbona to Theth hike, we walked to Theth Waterfall in the morning before leaving back to Shkodër
How to get to Theth Waterfall
Getting to the waterfall is quite easy since it does appear in Google Maps. Consider around 45 minutes starting from Theth Village to do the walk one way, and another 45 minutes to come back the same way. In case you are a bit map freak like me, I found this one useful:
The path is easy to follow yet there are some forks that may confuse you and end in another part or a dead end. Just follow the path next to the river until you pass by a small coffee-guest house. You’ll see how the path splits in two at some point, where you have to take left to go the waterfall.
About the walk to the waterfall
The walk is very easy to do and can be done with kids, but not with wheelchair. Only the last 10 minutes present difficulty, where you have to be careful following the path. Hiking boots are not necessary – I did it with Vans – but bringing some water is recommended.
The views while going to the waterfall are pretty cool. The river accompanies you half walk, until you cross it though a bridge and then you keep going up while everything turns green.
One piece of advice is to do the walk as soon as possible. We headed to Theth Waterfall around 9 am and when we were coming back, past 10 am, we crossed like 50 people. This means, that if you want to take good photos of the Waterfall, without crowds, better go early in the morning.
About the Cascade
The waterfall has a 25 meters long, nothing compared to other beasts we have visited, yet still beautiful. The water flows through a limestone mountain to fall into a blue pond, forming a charming scenario. You can swim if you want… but the water is incredibly freeezing. We stayed there for half hours, taking photos and went back to Theth, in order to finish our 3-day trip in the Albanian Alps.
I hope you found this short post useful and you finally get the Waterfall! Another totally recommended place in Albania.
